More than 4 years ago Lina Fat; Steve Hammond CEO of the Sacramento Convention and Visitor’s Bureau; Carol Van Bruggen, of Foord, Van Bruggen, Ebersole and Pajak; David Hosley of KVIE; and Kais Menoufy of Delegata saw the importance of recognizing, nurturing and honoring our role as one of the most culturally diverse regions in America.

They decided to showcase the many cultures of Sacramento by presenting a free ethnic dance and music festival that was an educational and entertaining experience for all ages. Beginning with a shoestring budget and gathering up volunteers and community partners from all over Sacramento, the first festival was a huge success.

Sponsors like Delegata, Wells Fargo, and Fat Family of Restaurants and Catering saw the importance of launching a festival that brings our entire community together and stepped up to help.

Visitors went to Old Sacramento for the multicultural booths, hands-on educational experiences, to see the work of regional ethnic artisans and were thrilled by the music and dance performances from cultures around the world in Memorial Auditorium.

As part of our continued effort to become a city of festivals, the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation and the Old Sacramento State Historic Park partnered with local volunteers to deliver our 4th annual festival. Be sure to wander through our website and look at this year’s events.

Each year our festival gets bigger and better. We’ve added new venues and attracted more world-class performers and artists who will thrill you with their talent.

“The Sacramento World Music & Dance Festival celebrates the rich diversity woven throughout our community. It’s extraordinary that dancers and musicians with ties from all over the globe will be performing right here in Sacramento.”
